As the University moves to increased use of electronic tools in support of scholarship, it will also need to consider the role of non-traditional forms of scholarship or publication in rank and tenure decisions. The University may wish to provide core support for the development of educational software, and the development of such software should be accorded comparable weight to publication of textbooks or pedagogical articles in the rank and tenure process. Similarly, scholarly publication in electronic journals --- especially peer reviewed electronic journals --- should be treated on an equal footing with more traditional forms of publication.
