In this section we have collected some primary recommendations from the subgroup reports, and some supporting themes that surfaced repeatedly in our general discussions. The main headings here are purposely different from the subgroup areas, because we want to emphasize that many of the central concerns and recommendations of the individual subgroups are overlapping or even essentially identical, and that the unifying goal for the University should be an information environment that removes artificial barriers between schools, disciplines, and functions (academic, administrative, business, etc.), and that integrates all digital information services in a framework transparent to a wide range of present or future hardware and operating systems.
