Assistant Director of Institute for Soft Matter Synthesis and Metrology

Job Description: Georgetown University in Washington DC is recruiting for an Assistant Director (AD) of the new Institute for Soft Matter Synthesis and Metrology (http://softmatter.georgetown.edu/). The mission of the Institute is to support research and education in the science of soft matter at Georgetown and throughout the mid-Atlantic region. The AD will assist the Director with all aspects of Institute operations and will manage the instrumentation associated with the core facility. The AD will assist scientists with their research, identify and test new measurement techniques, manage education of and outreach to new users, assist users with specific measurements and characterization, and work with the Institute faculty to identify new directions for instrumentation and capabilities. The AD will have the opportunity to acquire new skills through training courses and collaborative research. The successful candidate will have a strong and diverse background in materials science and a passion for research in an academic environment, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications: Requires a Masters degree or higher in physical science, with emphasis on measurement and/or instrumentation, and 3+ years experience with materials synthesis and characterization instrumentation, preferably applied to gels, emulsions, or other soft materials. Teaching or assistant teaching experience at the college or graduate level desirable.
