Abstract

We present results of normal state magnetoresistance measurements on a thin film of YBa2Cu3O7-delta deposited on MgO produced using pulsed laser deposition. The measurements were made as a function of the angle between the applied field and the c-axis. The MR has two components, one which is positive and scales with the normal component of the applied field and a negative isotropic term. These results confirm that the normal state properties of high-T(c) superconductors may be described using a quasi-two-dimensional Fermi liquid model. The results also bring into question earlier analyses of the fluctuation conductivity in this system and observations of weak-localization effects in other copper-oxide superconducting systems.
