Physics student wins top College award
Recent physics graduate Derick Stace-Naughton has won the 2011 Coakley Medal from Georgetown College. This award, the highest honor given to a graduating senior in the College, was founded in memory of “Hank” Coakley, 1941, Lieutenant, United States Army Air Force, who died in the service of his country in World War II. As described in the Georgetown Undergraduate Bulletin, the Coakley medal “… is presented annually to the member of the Senior class who, in the opinion of the faculty, manifested, above all others, the qualities of loving service, honor and courage in all phases of his or her college life.” The award was presented to Derick by the Dean of the College at the Georgetown College Tropaia exercises on May 20th. Derick, also a winner of a prestigious and highly competitive national fellowship, the George J. Mitchell Scholarship, will be studying next year at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland and will be pursuing an M.Sc. in Health Communication.
